Responsibilities include the project definition and mechanical engineering of high definition audio / video systems utilized in the sports entertainment industry, including NASCAR and IndyCar. Generate conceptual designs and engineering / production documentation using Autodesk Inventor. Perform component and system level finite element analysis (structural, thermal, and vibration) using Ansys DesignSpace and Sauna. Provide labor and material estimates. Procure mechanical parts, address outside vendor issues, and interact with internal departments to facilitate program management. Assemble and test mechanical prototypes and oversee project production runs. Conduct environmental testing (thermal and vibration) in onsite lab. Emphasizing mechanical applications, students were introduced to solid modeling as contrasted with traditional two-dimensional techniques, including the fundamentals of part, assembly, and drawing generation and editing. Other topics included finite element analysis using COSMOSWorks, top down assembly modeling procedure, advanced modeling techniques, importing and exporting models, and the use of solid models in manufacturing situations.
